Born in 1984, it became the only
continental championship in world
cricket. A battlefield where India,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and later
Bangladesh, Afghanistan and associates
fought not just for a trophy but for

For nearly four decades, the Asia Cup
has delivered unforgettable nights,
heartbreaks, and heroes. This is the

1990 to91 India.
India hosted with Muhammad Azeruin’s men
leading them to another title.
Pakistan boycotted due to political
tension.
1995 Sharjah India lifted their fourth
trophy cementing early supremacy.
But things were shifting. 1997
Sri Lanka. Riding the wave of their 1996
World Cup glory. Sri Lanka crushed India
in the final.
Sonat Jaasuria was unstoppable blasting
centuries redefining ODI batting.
2000 Bangladesh.
Finally Pakistan had their moment led by
Waqar younis. They defeated Sri Lanka in
the final to win their first Asia Cup.
Enzamal Haq and Muhammad Yosaf starred
with the bat while Saklane Mushtaq spin
webs around opposition.
By the new millennium, three giants
stood tall. India, Pakistan, and Sri
Lanka. The early 2000s brought a new
chapter. Bangladesh having gained test
status in 2000 became full participants
Though wins were rare, their presence
expanded the tournament and gave
underdog stories.
2004 Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup expanded to
six teams including UAE and Hong Kong.
Sri Lanka dominated with Jasura again
leading from the front finishing as top
runcorer.
2008 Pakistan
hosted in Karachi. This addition belonged
to Ajantha Mendes. India reached the
final with Verenda Sewag and MS Dhoni
firing but Mendis destroyed them with

Sri Lanka were champions again.
Bangladesh struggled but their passion
kept growing and soon they would shock
the world. 2010 Sri Lanka. India led by
Dhoni beat Sri Lanka in the final. Denash
Karthik top scored showing that even
unsung heroes could shine in this
tournament.
2012 Bangladesh a fairy tale almost
written in Dhaka.
Bangladesh stunned India and Sri Lanka
to reach the final. The entire nation
believed but heartbreak followed.
Pakistan led by Misba ul-Haq won by two
runs.
Shahid afred’s cameos and Umar gul’s
wickets sealed it. Fans cried in the
stands. Players broke down. It was the
night Bangladesh arrived on the world
stage.
2014
Bangladesh Sri Lanka lifted their fifth
title. Lassith Malinga’s yorkers in the
final destroyed Pakistan.

2016 Bangladesh t20

A historic shift. The Asia Cup switched
to T20 format to align with the T20
World Cup. Virat Kohi’s 49 not out
against Pakistan became iconic while
Rohit shararma led India to yet another
title. Bangladesh reached the final but
fell short again. 2018 UAE India
dominated beating Pakistan twice.
In the final Bangladesh nearly pulled
off a miracle but India won on the last
ball. Latin Dasa’s century was heroic.
UAE T20 format. Perhaps the most
dramatic Asia Cup ever. Afghanistan
shocked Sri Lanka. India beat Pakistan
in the group stage, but Pakistan hit
back in the super fours. Yet in the end,
Sri Lanka battling a national crisis at
home stunned everyone. They beat
Pakistan in the final to claim their
sixth title. It was resilience beyond sport.
2023 Pakistan and Sri Lanka hybrid
hosting.
Politics made India refuse to play in Pakistan.
Matches were split across two nations.
India crushed Pakistan and Colambo with
Kohli scoring a century. In the final,
Muhammad Siraj fiery 6/21 dismantled Sri
Lanka as India lifted their eighth Asia
Cup, the most by any team iconic players.
